The other day a friend of mine asked me, why is the West addicted to sex? Good question I thought, although I would say that while only some are actually addicted to it, we certainly are obsessed by it in our western culture.

Why might this be so?

The energy of sex, as we know from our experience, is very powerful, and it is no accident that it is so. The human body, just like all sexed animal bodies, has an evolved biological sexual response ‘built in’, a vital part of programming that ensures reproduction and the continuation of the species. The energy is, and has got to be, sufficiently powerful in order that male and female bodies come together to reproduce. In the animal body, the energy that moves the body sexually is raw divine energy. However, the animals do not know this. They feel it, and it moves their bodies to reproduce, but they do not know it because they do not have the reflective capability that we as humans have – that ability that allows us to think, be rational, and also to separate ourselves from the divine order of the world.

As self-conscious humans, we have the ability to reflect upon and identify with the feelings that are occurring in the body. When the body becomes sexually aroused, ready for mating, we feel or sense the extreme pleasure sensation in the body as raw, creative energy moves through the body and exchanges with another. We can identify with the feeling, and because of this, and because it is so lovely, we can then choose to override natural impulses and engage in sex whenever we want as a way to have the feeling.

A long time ago, when we first began entering our beautiful, but ignorant bodies – I don’t know for sure when (no one does, because history is a relative thing, the rate of time is not constant – more about that later), but lets say 10,000 years or so ago – we discovered this ability I have just spoken about. As each of us entered and made this discovery in the primitive human bodies, we realised our true relationship with the body. At that point in time (it was when time actually began) we knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, that while we lived through the body, we were not attached and bound by it. We were very definitely ‘in the world but not of it’. The period I speak of is the time of the gods and demi gods of ancient history. And these beings really got into exploring this divine sensation of sexual energy in the animal body, and there were no limits to the exploration! It was ‘anything goes’, because it was all new back then – no rules.

But it was not all good by any means. What was happening was not reflective of the intentions of God, the governing intelligence behind the whole idea. Interspecial breeding, among other things, was certainly an interesting experiment creating some unique and interesting forms, but it was not what was in mind for the Idea of Man made in God’s image.

So anyway, can you now see where the obsession in us has its roots? The identification with the sensations in the body that began as we first entered the body consciously, and continues to this day, is a wanting for high sensation. It is especially strong in men, where the discovery of and identification with this high powered weapon between their legs, a cosmic channel of light, and the seed of all potential can be all consuming at times. The raw sexual energy of the masculine is very driven. It’s got to be this way otherwise without it, there would be no more world, no continuation of the species, no creatures. The discovery by the male human being that they can use their penis outside of its evolved purpose for pleasure alone, and the identification with and attachment to the sensation of sexual energy in the body, is the birth place of all obsession and lust.
The condition is more notable in western culture because the West in most representative of the masculine principle. It is a driven culture. So western men and western culture are the most obsessed with sex. The nature of the East is more feminine, where the culture has evolved with the earth and has seemingly managed to escape the lure of lust that was born and survives through identification with sensation.

That’s good. I can get that.
I have a comment on the time before history that you mention, a time when ‘anything goes’. I choose to believe that in that time, that prehistoric dreaming time, that there was strong governance of sexual behaviour and that it was governed by the instincts and intuitions of women. Women who were very much devoted to the rhythms of the seasons; women who CHOSE their sexual partners, not according to lust or desire, but according to the natural conditions of their world. Ie; they mated for the good of their clan, for strong and varied genes. They made sexual union to honour and glorify the earth and her surges…Sex, not for individual gratification, but for the greater good .
Alas, the softness of the waiting receptive earth is stamped beneath the stride of the wanting west.

Yes. And the wonderful thing is that these impulses are still there deep within us today.

And until real live human men bring back their drive (sex drive) and allow it to be……………… the world cannot balance and move with the spirit.
The world can be a frightening place for women trapped in the social game of male/female attraction, and it must be oppressive for men similarly trapped in needing to express their drive to the outer world. Until this is recognised as the major expression of the imbalance of the culture, the suffocation of the spirit, the imprisonment of love… how can we, as individuals, live in Christ?

Thankyou for your comment. I would put it the other way around… balance cannot be restored until people do become the Christ, which is, to make God real in the life of the individual. To make God real in your experience is not by belief or living by any particular code. God realisation is the living spirit of knowledge, here and now, and always. It can only be realised through opening oneself to it with no expectation. That is all that can be done. Be simple, be humble, be open…and most importantly, don’t think about it!

Christ
Symbol of the cross, the sword, consciousness, manifestation…
Christ rises in the hearts of humans; this is a symbol for the sword in the cauldron, the knowledge of the grail, the phallus in the field, the human on the earth, the conscious in the unconscious, the boychild in the woman, the penis in the vagina…..
Christ as symbol.
Christ as essence.
